Organizing your child’s birthday party is probably the biggest challenge you face.

It can often be a stressful headache, one you would rather avoid but one you know you have to endure anyway. We are here to make your child’s birthday as easy as possible and let us tell you, the fact you’re reading this article already puts you at a head start!

So if you want a birthday party that your child will actually say thanks to you for, then just read on.

1. THE INVITE LIST

Be sure you know exactly who your kid wants to have at their birthday party. You don’t want to end up booking the whole thing in, to find out your child’s BFF is out of town. It’s definitely a way to secure a tantrum you don’t need. Remember to also check with your child if he/she is happy for their friends to bring siblings and specify on the invite if plus ones are allowed accordingly. You don’t want to end up with more kids than you bargained for!

2. PARTY THEME

This is one of the best parts to get your child involved in, regardless of age. You want to pick something that will make them instantly happy and excited. Plus it will most likely get all their friends excited too, saving you from worrying about your guests not enjoying themselves. You can get themed cups, banners, balloons, plates, napkins and really make the theme prominent.

3. BUDGET

Obviously you need to think about how much you want to spend and what you’re willing to splurge on. This is why it’s important to keep the attendance list precise, especially if you’re getting outside entertainment in. Decide early how much you’re willing to spend overall and break that up over all the sections.

Look for some easier ways to save. Most parents still send a paper invite for birthday parties rather than an email one. Creating an awesome, online, themed invite will not only help you save money on postage and printing but also keep better track of your RSVP list so you know exactly who can make it.

4. TIME IT RIGHT

You probably don’t want to end up with 10 overly energized children running around your house for five hours straight. Keep your party to roughly two hours, give or take about half an hour. Indicate clearly when parents should come to pick their child up and remind them on the day when they drop them off.

5. FOOD

Don’t overdo the food. Once you have the final guest list, calculate roughly how much each child will realistically eat and stick to that. Remember that you might need more food if your party is over lunchtime for instance, but if you fit it in-between meals you can probably get away with a few snacks. If you have snacks like chips or lollies, kids will most likely eat that over sandwiches, so order of arrival is crucial when it comes to food. Remember that your guests are only kids and they enjoy the more simple food.

6. CAKE

Don’t forget the cake! It’s easy to get caught up in the rush of planning and have the cake slip your mind. If you have a theme, try having a cake that matches the theme. Remember to offer cake to any adults that might be at the party as well, they might need an extra sugar rush more than the kids at this point. And remember to have some yourself! It’s your child’s birthday after all, and you deserve it!

7. PRESENTS AND GOODY BAGS

It’s easier to wait till after everyone has left, before allowing your child to open their presents, as it helps avoid any stressful, awkward situations. But it is a good idea to give a small goody bag to the guests so the kids are excited and have something physical to take away from the party as well.

8. OUTSOURCE THE ENTERTAINMENT

It’s a good idea to outsource your child entertainment for the majority of the party as it saves you the stress of having to look after a large group of kids yourself!

If you’re getting in outside entertainment, such as Game Vault for example, make sure all logistics have been agreed upon beforehand. These include timings, whether you need to be present, where the organizers can park if the event is at your house and any other details that might need to be decided.

9. ASK FOR HELP FROM FRIENDS

If you think you need a pair of extra hands or two, rope in your friends to help you out! Not only will it be nice for you to have trusted people there, there will be more people to look after the children and they can assist with things like cutting the cake or making sure that you have photos to cherish from the event! You can always say thanks to them with a bottle of wine, plus you’ll be there to help when they go through it themselves as well!

10. RELAX

Finally, remember to relax and enjoy yourself. You’ve planned everything well and your child will have a great time! Remember that even any unexpected hiccups, can turn into hilarious stories for years to come, so just plan ahead and enjoy!

If you follow our 10 points, you will run a smooth and fun birthday party that your child and your guests will remember and you’ll be worry free, until next year at least!

Good luck!
