As people become more health conscious, the traditional sugar filled party bags become more and more outdated. We want our kids to still enjoy the treat of taking a party bag home but we don’t want them to be full of junk food. That’s why we have come up with an awesome list of 8 alternatives to the traditional party bag.

1. Homemade

If you still want to include some kind of food option in the party bag, try making it yourself. Whether that’s some healthy kids cookies or even popcorn, you can ensure it’s a lot healthier for the kids than just standard lollies. With popcorn, you can either make it beforehand or you can give them the corn that they can then (with the help of their parents) pop at their own house!

2. Custom Colouring Books

These don’t necessarily have to be books, it could be just one print out per child but if you make them themed to the party, the kids can go home and have an activity to do that reminds them of the party. There are plenty of free online resources, such as this one here, where you can download free colouring pages for any theme. You can also buy cheap sets of crayons or colouring pencils from places like Kmart or The Reject Shop and give one to each child as well.

3. Bubbles

You can buy bubbles in lots of different types of shapes and sizes, whether they are the large, bubble wands or the tiny bubble bottles, the kids will no doubt appreciate them. They are always fun to play around with and don’t require much effort if you’re looking for something the kids can easily engage with by themselves.

4. Playdough

Did you know that it is incredibly easy to make playdough at home? You only need a few ingredients and then you’ve got another great gift for the kids to take home! You can even make edible playdough, though that isn’t as healthy of an alternative.

5. Photos

As everyone is arriving, you can take a photo of each child with the birthday boy/girl and then during the party, have someone help you out and print out all the photos. You then can give each attendee the photo of them and the birthday person, to remember them of the event.

To make it even more interesting, you can grab some simple, standard photo frames from your local craft shop and hand the photos out in those. The kids can then go home and decorate the frames, giving them a fun activity to take away as well!

6. Seeds

You can grab small packets of seeds from Bunnings or even Big W and put these inside the bags. It’s a great take away activity and the kids can enjoy watching them grow in their garden!

7. Lucky Dip

Instead of making all the party bags the same, you can grab a bunch of different toys and craft supplies related to your theme and then wrap them all up individually. The kids will dip out the little gifts and that way you won’t have to worry about them all being the same, as it will be based on luck.

8. Kids Books

Giving out books that are related to the theme will get kids excited to read them later on. They don’t need to be anything huge, there are plenty of short stories in book form that you can opt for. If you have quite a few to buy, it’s best to look at online places as well, such as BookDepository, that have children’s book for as little as $4 and do free worldwide shipping, so that you can get quality for a reasonable price.

As you can see, there are a lot of amazing ideas on how to make your party bag exciting, whilst still making sure it’s not sugar filled! The kids will also appreciate something different to their standard party bag expectation and the parents will thank you for it as well.
