According to the Gamin io, there are approximately 2.2 billion gamers world wide.

Considering that the world’s population is estimated to be sitting at 7.6 billion, that means that at least one third of the world’s population are gamers. Of those 2.2 billion gamers, around 56 percent are said to be over the age of 30.

That means that over half of the population who considers themselves gamers are also over 30 years old.

Why do we want to highlight this statistic to you? … Because adults are totally allowed to have fun too! Hence why we encourage everyone, no matter your age, gender, or current gaming status to step inside the vault and share an epic experience with your mates. Who knows? Maybe you’ll end up being a part of the above statistics!

Turns out that research has shown that gaming (in moderation) can be good for you, particularly those of us who are aging … so all of us!

A group of researchers at the University of Iowa found that 10 hours of gaming per week for adults over the age of 50 does in fact slow down the aging process by a few years. “We saw a range across all our tests from a minimum of a year-and-a-half all the way to about six-and-a-half years of recovery or improvement. From 10 – 14 hours of training, that’s quite a lot of improvement.”

Not only does research show that video games can assist in slowing the aging process, they’ve also shown that they can help you develop your decision making skills.

In a separate study to the previous one, a group at the University of Rochester brought in a group of young adults with no gaming experience to play an action game for 50 hours.

A second group of the same age played a slow paced strategy game instead.

After the study, Lead Researcher, Shawn Green said, “action video games are fast paced, and there are peripheral images and events popping up, and disappearing. These video games are teaching people to become better at taking sensory data in, and translating it into correct decisions.”

As if those two reasons aren’t enough to get you to get some mates around for a few games, here’s one last reason we think that gaming in adult life is a total plus!

We know that you’ve all heard those rumours flying around about how gamers are awkward introverts who enjoy spending time alone…. Well, those rumours are wrong and that stereotype is way overrated!

A study conducted in Canada and in the UK focussing on how antisocial gamers were, discovered is that gamers who partake in live social environments are actually some of the most positive communicators and social groups of people in our modern society.

One Researcher said, “gamers aren’t the antisocial basement-dwellers we see in pop culture stereotypes; they’re highly social people.” These people also seem to have better relationships with one and other because they’re able to form stronger bonds over their love of gaming.

So there you have it. Whether you’re thinking of hosting a corporate function event, a team building exercise, a fundraiser or a hens/bucks gaming night, why not step inside the vault and:

1) Potentially slow down the aging process

2) Improve decision making abilities

3) Get more social
