DO send out party invitations early
Party invites should be sent out at least a month in advance. People are busy and they’re more likely to decline if they have little notice.
DO be specific on the invitation
Make sure you specify what day and time the party is and whether you are providing food or not. Also, it’s important to let parents know if they are required to stay for the duration of the party.
DO include an RSVP date on the invitation
Give guests a specific date by which they need to RSVP and your number to contact you.
DON’T exclude any kids
It’s fine if your child does not want to invite the entire class, but also be mindful not to exclude just 1 or 2 kids out of the class either. If you’re keeping your party numbers small, be discreet and tell your child not to talk about it in front of their classmates who are not invited.
DON’T let your child open their presents during the party
Opening gifts during the party moves the focus onto the presents. This can make other children feel bad or left out. It also makes it difficult to thank the parents as they may not be at the party. It’s best to open them once the party has ended, making a list of who to thank for which gift.
