Time flies and somehow the spring school holidays are already upon us. We thought it was about time we compiled a list of activities throughout Perth that would help you keep the kids busy between the 23rd September and the 8th of October! The first part are the free events on around Perth and the second part are paid events, but they are great alternatives to the classic Royal Show, which you will no doubt be dragged to this year yet again.

Free Events

The Discovery Zone at the WA Museum (located in Perth City) is running some awesome free activities these spring holidays. Kids aged 4-13 can learn all about bones, how fossils work and they even get to compare bones from different animals as well as their own! The Museum is also running a toy collection of toys from all around the world! All ages are welcome and they have a cabinet filled with toys on display and fun trails and games for the kids to get involved with too!

As always, shopping centres are an awesome place to look for free kids activities and they do not disappoint these school holidays! The Livingston Marketplace in Canning Vale is running a Lip Balm Workshop from the 3rd of October till the 5th of October, where kids create a large pot of lip balm that contains their favourite colours and flavours. They also get to learn about the importance of knowing what ingredients you should and shouldn’t look for in your beauty products! They request bookings, so get in quick!

If you don’t want to book, Maddington Central has a chock-a-block calendar of free kids events that require no bookings and are available to the first 150 attendees! From the 2nd of October till the 6th of October, they are running everything from ‘Birdhouse Art’ workshops to ‘Design a Cap’ ones, so make sure you check them out and pick the day you want to attend!

Karrinyup Shopping Centre is running their Jungle Gym again these holidays, complete with climbing ropes and tunnels. Suitable for ages 3 to 12, it’s definitely an activity your kids will want to get involved in!

Fremantle Markets are running a Baby Animal Farm every Saturday between 9:00am-11:00am, full of cute ducklings, lambs, goats, chickens, bunnies, piglets and even (depending on availability), horses and alpacas! Entry is by gold coin donation but it is truly worth it!

Paid Events

AQWA is also running a bunch of free kids activities but you still have to pay for entry, which is why we included it in this list. Their theme for the spring holidays in ‘Slime Time’ and there is a range of challenges and events on from slime making to slime tattoos. Definitely worth a visit.

Shopping centres run some awesome free events, but they also run some fun paid ones! Lakeside Joondalup is running a German Engineering Workshop (suitable for ages 6 – 11 and costs $30), where kids act as young engineers and build their own race car!

If your kids love dinosaurs, then the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre has the event for you! The Dinosaur Discovery: Lost Creatures of The Cretaceous is back this year and features 23 moving, life size animations from the Cretaceous period! Adults are $25 whilst children 3-15 are $15 and under 3 they are free! So go explore what our world would have looked like 145-66 million years ago!

For those of you who want to spend a little more time outdoors, the Bibbulmun Track Foundation is running a 2km walk for kids, to meet the native creatures from Kanyana Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre on Saturday 30th of September. Limited places available so if this sounds like your perfect day out, we’d recommend booking it quick!

And as it is getting closer to Halloween, we thought we’d include this as well. An Escape! Tour by Fremantle Prison, where children 5 to 12 can visit numerous dramatic escapes throughout the Prison’s history and hear all the daring and dangerous tales! Only $11.50 and run both Tuesdays and Thursdays of the holidays.

There you have it, some of the best events on during these September/October school holidays in Perth! Hopefully it’s given you some ideas on where to take your kids and how to keep them entertained the whole time!
