What Parents Should Know About Video Games

At Game Vault we appreciate that as a parent, it can be difficult to keep up with a childs interests. Most children love video games, so below we have three things that parents should know about video games.

1. “I can’t pause it, I’m in the middle of a game!”

We have all heard this when asking our child to get off their console because it’s time for dinner or bed.

You may not realise that when they play online with friends everything is happening live and if they were to leave the game they will be forfeiting the effort they have put in and letting their team mates down.

Try to give them a 15 minute warning before they need to leave and tell them that it needs to be their last game to avoid any arguements.

2. Talking to strangers isn’t always a bad thing

We spend lots of time teaching our kids not to talk to strangers in the real world. However we also encourage them make friends at school.

If your child plays games online, they may well be playing with and chatting to people who they have never met. You should rest assured that the gaming community is largely a very friendly place and that your child is socialising and making friendships.

A shared interest is a great way to begin a friendship after all. Of course, you must still be vigilant with who your child is talking and you should educate them to steer clear of anyone that makes them uncomfortable.

3. Don’t let them sell their old games

Try and do a search on eBay for any video games or consoles you may have played as a child. Some of the prices these now fetch will make your eyes water!

Sometimes we want to play that old game again due to nostalgia and the joyful memories it once gave you. Whether it be sentimental reasons or monetary value, it is always worth holding on to old video games.

If your child has a birthday coming up, think about having a game truck party. It’s fun, stress and mess free!
